Agape Theatre Troupe is a non-profit,
all volunteer group founded by Cathy Rawlings. Since its beginning
in 2000 as Imani's Family Life Theatre, Agape Theatre Troupe has
produced several excellent shows including Above My Head,
Sweat'in da Bluez - da Muzikle, Flying West,
Memories of Life...Unchained Melodies, and At the Crucifixion.
Cathy Rawlings is president and founder of the
Agape
Theatre Troupe.
Established in 2000, Flyin’ West was
Agape’s first
production. Her energy, insight, and theatrical
experience translated into a hugely successful production and
jump-started the stage careers of several other actors.
Her talents as an actress—and skill as both playwright and
director—have been beautifully illustrated in Agape’s original
productions including: Unchained Melodies, Memories of Life;
At the Crucifixion; Church, Roll On!; Above My Head; and
Sweatin’ Da Bluez: da Muzikal.
Cathy has performed with the Actor’s Guild of Lexington (AGL) where
she has been awarded two Smitty Awards for Best Actress in a Leading
Role—Yellowman and The Old Settler—and a
Special Recognition Smitty award for her role as an ensemble cast
member in The Vagina Monologues.
Her numerous other credits include performances with the Lexington
Children’s Theater (LCT), African American Theatre, Studio Players,
and the Phoenix Group Theatre. She has been honored as an Artist in
Residence at the AGL and has recently co-directed The Watson’s
Go to Birmingham 1963 at the LCT. She starred in the
made-for-television movie “Brotherly Love” in 1999. Last,
but certainly not least, she appeared in the Epicfilms movie trailer
“The Phoenix” in January, 2009.
Married to Bill Rawlings, Cathy has two children—Alex and Chris
Knowles—and is a member of the Imani Missionary Baptist Church
choir.
